Career Direct Assessment and Consultation
Career Direct® is a comprehensive career assessment and consultation process designed to help individuals understand how they are uniquely wired for work. It integrates research-based career guidance with biblical principles, thoughtful consultation, and decades of validated data.
At its core, the process helps align vocation with a person’s natural personality, interests, skills and abilities, and values—whether they are choosing a direction for the first time or considering a thoughtful change.
Career Direct has been developed and refined over more than 30 years by a team of researchers and is statistically reliable and well-established. It is the career arm of Crown Financial Ministries and was developed out of a need for a comprehensive, biblically-based assessment to enable people to find their best career fit. Larry Burkett, 1976 founder of Christian Financial Concepts (now Crown Financial Ministires) noted, “During the years I was counseling families on their finances, I frequently observed people in career fields that didn't match their talents and abilities. It concerned me that so many people were not aware of their strengths and, therefore, were not being good stewards of their talents.” He began assembling a team of experts to meet that need in 1995 and it has continued to be improved, researched and confirmed as the reliable, biblically-based tool it is today.
It makes sense that if work is not enjoyable, challenging and fit to one’s personality and gifts, one will be less successful and life will be harder than it could otherwise be. Likewise, if we end up in a career well-matched to our gifts and personality, we will naturally succeed and enjoy life. More importantly, we will be able to contribute our gifts and talents to the broader society and steward all we have been given for the greater good!
How does it work?
Personality— It all starts with YOU! The process explores how you are naturally wired and examines key personality traits and how they influence the way you relate to people, approach tasks, make decisions, and engage your work. Rather than labeling you, the results place you on a continuum for each personality trait—offering insight into your natural tendencies and how they may shape your best work environment and roles. Many people find these insights both affirming and surprisingly accurate. Are you curious? What would be your guess?
Vocational Interests — You will receive a ranked listing of your top eight career interest groupsthat include:
Occupations you could see yourself doing
Activities that energize you
Subjects you’re naturally drawn to and like to learn about
Through consultation, we will explore which interests could point toward potential careers, which could serve as supportive or complementary roles (you like them, but not enough to have it as a whole job), or which could be considered a hobby or lifestyle interest.
These distinctions are equally valuable for students and professionals considering change.
Skills and Abilities — Your ranked list of skills and abilities are crucial to evaluating next steps in education and possible job opportunities. When work aligns with your natural strengths, life feels more sustainable and hopeful, whether you’re entering the workforce or re-evaluating your role within it. In addition to being more fun, working in your strengths will let you swim with the current, not against it, decreasing stress on the job and giving you confidence going forward.
Values— Even when work fits your personality and abilities, dissatisfaction and stress can happen if it doesn’t align with your values. Incorporating your values into the career choice mix will greatly increase your chances for a long, fulfilling, rewarding career. Many times we believe if the rewards (money) are there, we can do anything reasonably aligned with our skills and abilities, but all too often find this is not true.
The Values section explores:
the Work Environment you thrive in
the Outcomes you hope your work provides and finally
your Life Priorities — what are your overriding values that will stay consistent over time?
This helps clarify why some roles may look good on paper but still feel misaligned.
Career Direct provides a provides a thoughtful, proven process for gaining clarity—helping individuals make informed, confident decisions about work and direction at any stage of life.
Please confirm your interest in either an occupational or educational assessment. Thanks!
